History
This is the 12th of a series of well-established conferences about surface- and interface aspects of matter at high temperature, from both, a theoretical as well as an experimental approach. These conferences began more than 30 years ago following an initiative of Y. Naidich (Kiew, Ukraine), N. Eustathopoulos (Greenoble, France) and R. Sangiorgi (Genoa, Italy) who wanted to bring together, for the first time, researchers from the political West and East who had successfully worked for many years on wetting and capillary phenomena at temperatures as high as those of molten metals, alloys and glasses. As a result, the first international conference on High Temperature Capillarity took place in Smolnice, Slovakia during the spring time of the year 1994. However, the time scales of political systems proved to be shorter than those of science. The interest in the conference and its topics is still high. Thus, every two or three years, an HTC conference takes places in various locations all over the world:
