ESA-HTC Young Presenter Award

Since a couple of years, HTC aims to be more attractive for young researchers. The introduction of a “Young presenters Award” was one way to increase the attractiveness of HTC.

This year, the Award is “beefed up” by some money donated by ESA-ESTEC and it is therefore called “ESA-HTC Young Presenter Award”.  The money is of the order of 2 x 150 € + 1 x 200 € adding up to a total of 500 €. It serves as a little non-zero recognition of the Awardees.

 Eligibility

“Young Presenters” are either students, Ph.-D. students, or young scientists. The latter are those Ph.-D.’s whose examination is no longer than 6 years ago. “Young Presenters” of course have a presentation at 12th HTC, i.e. either a poster or a talk.

Criteria

The criteria for the Award can roughly be divided into two groups, “Form” and “Science”. The first comprehends the structure of the presentation, the conciseness, the clarity, and the language, while the second includes originality, significance, and relevance. Each criterion is rated by the committee members on a scale from 0 to 10, whereas 10 is the best and 0 the worst. The candidates with the three highest scores (per reviewer) are elected for the Award.

Resonance

12 Young Presenters expressed their interest in the Award with 2 poster presentations and 10 oral ones. There were 4 young scientists (with Ph.-D.) and 8 students. Moreover, there were 9 male candidates and 3 female ones. This ratio between male and female candidates needs to be improved in future.
